This information was from a survey done by CyberBullying Research center who sent out random samples to 4,441 children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 18 from 37 different schools in the southern us.



Use of Technology

• 83% of the kids use cell phones
• 47.1% use cell phones at school
• 40.5% take pictures with cell phones
• 31.5% go online with cell phones
• 50.1% use Facebook
• 37.7% use MySpace
• 11.5% use YouTube
• 6.5% use Twitter

Cyberbullying Victimization

• 20.8% of the kids have been cyberbullied in their lifetime
• 17% have been cyberbullied at least once in the previous 30 days
• 13.3% have been cyberbullied by rumors online
• 14.3% have been cyberbullied by mean or hurtful comments online
• 7.2% have been threatened online

Cyber-Bullying goes on after death of young girl

17 year old Alexis Pilkington took her life on march 21st. The social network that affected her was and was bullied on was form spring.

Ever hear of trolling?

Trolling is when someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response.

A 15 year old girl was a victim of being trolled. The girl's name was Natasha MacBryde and she was killed on valentines day by a train. They believed that she was teased because of her parents divorce and where she went to school it there were many wealth kids and their parents weren't divorced. When she died they made a memorabilia facebook page for her. That is were the trolling started even after the girl is gone. People commented on the page and said "Natasha wasn't bullied, she was just a whore" another comment was " I caught the train to heaven lol". Another horrible thing they did was make a video of Natasha getting hit by the train and put her face on it.

Cyber-Bullying the cause of a 15 year old girl's suicide

A Freshman girl named Phoebe Prince moved to Massachusetts from Ireland. She was cyber bullied by many people at the school. They targeted her because they all thought she was pretty and they were all jealous of her. That is what her one friend in the video clip said. In the video her friend tells you some of the things they said to her. On her Wikipedia of her suicide it says that she was bullied by at least two separate groups of students at her high school. The reason that was reported was she had disputes with other girls over her beliefs of her relationship with a senior football player and another male student. The aunt told the school to watch after her niece because she had been bullied at her last school. The last straw for Phoebe was on January 14,2010. During the day she was taunted, harassed and a student threw a can at her out of a car when she was walking home from school. That day January 14th Phoebe took her own life by hanging herself and her 12 year old sister found her.

Hearing a story like this is just so upsetting because Phoebe didn't choose to be Cyber-Bullied they targeted her and made her life miserable. There are many stories about Cyber-Bullying and the effect of what happen to that person. I thought that Phoebe's story was a good example of showing the effect of Cyber-Bullying.
